Full time · The Report Level, then undone

    Jordan 13 Austria

For an hour, Jordan belonged here. Ali Olwan's equaliser just after the break drew them level with Austria, a squad valued many times their own, and the contest was genuinely poised. What undid them was the cruellest sequence in football: an own goal, and then a Marko Arnautovic penalty twelve minutes into stoppage time, turning a one-goal game into a scoreline that flatters the gap. The expected goals, 0.53 to 1.66, say they were second best. The hour they spent level says they were not far off it.

Full time · The Report Honour in defeat

    Jordan 12 Algeria

For an hour Jordan looked like they might pull off the heist of the round. Nael Al Rashdan's header just before the break put the rank outsiders in front, and a goalkeeper worth six saves kept them there deep into the second half. But Algeria had seventy-two percent of the ball and ten corners to Jordan's one, and that kind of pressure usually finds a way: Benbouali levelled, then Gouiri struck eight minutes from time. A brave plan undone at the last — but there is honour in this one.

Full time · The Report A goal to take home

    Jordan 13 Argentina

Jordan, ranked forty-seventh in the field, were always going to spend this game chasing shadows, and so it proved — twenty-seven percent of the ball against an Argentina a class above. But there is one moment they will carry home: Musa Tamari's strike just before the hour, scored against the best, on the biggest stage. The expected goals, 2.14 to 0.74, tell the truer story of a night spent defending, and Lionel Messi duly applied the finish. No disgrace here — only the gap between a developing side and a giant, and a goal to prove they belonged.

    Goals 19' G. Lo Celso · 31' L. Martinez (pen) · 55' M. Tamari · 80' L. Messi

    xG 0.74–2.14 ·Poss 27% ·Shots 5 (1 on target) ·Corners 2 ·GK saves 1

Friendship blends realized national co-starts with a club-chemistry bonus, so a settled XI and a club-spine squad both score high. Near 100 the total eases so the most-settled squads stay separated rather than all tying out. Gold lines trace the spine: teammates who share a club right now.
